 In Begleitung des polnischen Präsidenten Lech Kaczynski starb der Katholische Militärbischof für die polnischen Streitkräfte Tadeusz Ploski bei dem tragischen Flugunfall bei Smolenks.

Mit ihm fand sein Sekretär und Vize-Kanzler der militärbischöflichen Kurie, Militärgeistlicher Oberstleutnant Jan Osinski, den Tod.

Auch der Erzbischof der Polnisch-orthodoxen Kirche Miron Chodakowski, der zugleich das Amt des orthodoxen Militärbischofs wahrnahm, verlor sein Leben.

Weiterhin verstarb mit seinen Brüdern aus den anderen Militärseelsorgen der evangelisch-lutherische Militärpfarrer Adam Pilch.

Papst Benedikt XVI. nannte in seinem Beileidstelegramm an den amtierenden polnischen Präsidenten diese Militärseelsorger gleichermaßen.

Mögen sie und alle bei diesem Flug tödlich Verunglückten ruhen in Gottes Frieden!

Tadeusz Ploski, ein mit höchsten kirchlichen, militärischen und akademischen Würden ausgestatteter Priester, blieb trotz alledem ein bescheidener, eher zurückhaltender Mann, der aufmerksam zuhörte, wenn er auch manchmal eher vorsichtig antwortete. Doch was er sagte, hatte Bestand.Er war ein wirklich frommer Priester, dem das große Wort fremd war. Darum wurde er ein verlässlischer Freund der deutschen Katholischen Militärseelsorge und damit auch der Soldaten der Bundeswehr. Nichts zeigte das besser als die gemeinsamen Militärwallfahrten zum Maria-Himmelsfahrts-Fest zum polnischen Nationalheiligtum auf dem Hellen Berg in Tschenstochau, zu dem Ploski neben den Slowaken und Amerikanern auch die Deutsche Bundeswehr einlud.

Tadeusz Ploski wusste um die Untiefen selbst im ehrlich gemeinten Miteinander von Polen und Deutschen. Dialog braucht vor allem Zeit und gemeinsame, neue Erfahrungen.

Es ist tragisch, dass auch wir Deutschen künftig auf den stillen Dienst von Bischof Tadeusz Ploski verzichten müssen.

Tadeusz Płoski (Maj. gen.; D.sc., Ph.d.)  was born on March 9th 1956 at Lidzbark Warmiński (Heilsberg) as a son of Henryk and Kazimiera. He enrolled in The Hosianum Seminary in Olsztyn, where he studied philosophy and theology.On June 6th 1982, Tadeusz Płoski was ordained priest by Bishop Jan Obłąk at Olsztyn Cathedral.

He worked as a priest at St. Joseph’s Parish for a year. In the years 1983-1986, he studied canon law at the Catholic University of Lublin. In 1986, he assumed the post at the Bishop’s Curia and also at the Bishop’s Court at Warmińska Diocese as a diocesan judge of the court.In the years 1986-1992, Tadeusz Płoski was editor-in-chief of The Diocesan News of Warmia and an academic chaplain at Wyższa Szkoła Pedagiczna and Akademia Rolniczo-Techniczna in Olsztyn.In 1992, he was delegated to the Military Ordinary of the Polish Armed Forces; and, on June 1st he assumed his new responsibilities as a solicitor, and later in 1994 as the Principal of the Diocesan Department at the Military Ordinary in Warsaw.In 1993, he received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Canon Law at the Canon Law Department at the Catholic Academy of Theology.In 1994, he was the first military chaplain to complete Postgraduate Operational Strategic College at the National Defence University at Warszawa-Rembertów.In 1995, he was appointed dean of the Vistula Military Units of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration. After the dissolution of the military units in 2000, Tadeusz Płoski was appointed chaplain of the Government Security Office; and, in 2001 - dean of the Government Security Office.From 1995 till 2001, Tadeusz Płoski held the position of editor-in-chief of the Military Ordinary main periodical - Nasza Służba (Our Service). On May 6th 2001, he was appointed Chancellor of the Military Ordinary. From 1996, he was the custodian of the Military Ordinary Seminary students. Since 1998, he has been lecturing in Denominational Law at the Law and Administration Department, Warmińsko-Mazurski University in Olsztyn.He was appointed correspondent of the Vatican Radio and the Catholic News Agency. He was promoted to: captain - 1992, major -1995, lieutenant colonel -1998, colonel -2000, and nominated brigadier general - 2004, and major general -2006.On March 1st 1999, he received the dignity of the Prelate of His Holiness.On October 16th, 2004 Pope John Paul II appointed him to the position of the Military Bishop of the Polish Armed Forces. On October 30th 2004, he was consecrated as a Bishop and a ceremonial Ingress took place with military ceremony at the Military Cathedral in Warsaw.                

On November 8th 2004 the President of the Republic of Poland nominated him to the rank of Brigadier General, and later on March 31st 2006, to Major General in the Polish Armed Forces.On November 26th , following the resolution of the 330th Assembly of the Polish Episcopacy in Częstochowa, Tadeusz Płoski was appointed National Chaplain for the Combatants. On March 9th 2005 after the Polish Episcopacy Conference, he was appointed Polish Episcopacy Delegate for the Scouts’ Affairs.On June 23rd 2005, the Prime Minister appointed him Member of the Protection Council of Battles and Martyrdom Commemoration.ON 8 may 2006, The Bishop received the Order of st. Stanislaus.On 10th May 2006, Tadeusz Płoski performed a free-fall parachute jump from the altitude of 4000 metres during an exercise of the Special Military Group Formation GROM.On October 19 2006, during the 337th plenary session of the Polish Episcopacy Conference, He was elected member of the Legal Council of the Polish Episcopacy.
On the same day, following the resolution of the General Assembly of the Polish Episcopacy, the Customs Service of the Republic of Poland was included in the range of activities of the Military Ordinary.On the 23 of November 2006, following the resolution of the General Assembly of the Polish Episcopacy, the Railway Protection Force was included in the range of activities of the Military Ordinary. During its Plenary Session between 2 and 3 October 2006, the Conference of the Polish Episcopacy elected Bishop Tadeusz Płoski Delegate of the Conference of the Polish Episcopacy responsible for the Police Force Chaplaincy.On 6th of March 2008, following the resolution of the 343 Plenary Session of the Polish Episcopacy Conference, the Military Bishop Maj. Gen. Prof. Tadeusz Płoski D.Sc., Ph.D. was elected member of the Concil for the Chaplaincy of the Youth. As a lecturer in Denominational Law at the Law and Administration Department, Warmińsko-Mazurski University in Olsztyn. He has published over 150 research papers and participated in numerous conferences and symposiums dedicated to military chaplaincy held both at home and abroad.On 11th December 2007, the Council of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Nicolas Copernicus University of Toruń awarded him the degree of Doctor Habilitatus in Legal Science on the basis of the colloquy and the dissertation entitled “Chaplaincy in the Polish Armed Forces – a Law Study Including Human Rights and Humanitarian Law” (published in Olsztyn, 2006 by Warmińsko-Mazurski University Press). On 29th February 2008, the Senate of the University appointed the Bishop Professor; and, subsequently, nominated him head of the Section of Administration Law and Administration Science.So far, three volumes of priestly teaching by the Military Bishop have been published: “Remain With Us, Lord – the priestly teching of the Military Bishop, Oct. 30 2004 – June 4 2006” (Warsaw, 2006), “Stay Strong in Faith - the priestly teching of the Military Bishop, June 4 2006 – April 22 2007” (Warsaw, 2007) and “God’s Mercy lasts Forever - the priestly teching of the Military Bishop, April 24 – Dec. 30 2007” (Warsaw, 2008).The sermons and homilies as well as the speeches of the Military Bishop are published on the official website of the Military Ordinary (www.ordynariat.pl) in the link called “nauczanie pasterskie” (priestly teaching) and “Wiadomości” (the News).The Bishop has been honoured with numerous state decorations including the Bachelor’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, and with the badges of numerous military establishments, veterans’ organisations, and foreign institutions, e.g. the Gold Badge of the Country’s Defence League, the Badge of the Warsaw Garrison, the Badge of the Representational Battalion, the Badge of Merit for the National of the Soldiers of the Peasant’s Battalions, the Badge of the Michał Gutowski Mounted Reconnaissance Battalion from Żagań, and the badge of the Bachelors’ Club of the Virtuti Militari War Order.On 3rd of December, the Bishop received the dignity of Honorary Colliery Director General.
